Eternals Deleted Scene Features Historical Chat Between Sprite and Dane Whitman

A deleted scene from Marvel’s Eternals has been shared online by IGN. The scene features Sprite (Lia McHugh) and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) in a museum discussing antiquities from the past.

Throughout the clip, Sprite references many things from her past. She turns one of the fossils into a deviant, says that the statue of Thena (Angelina Jolie) is an inaccurate representation, and even confirms her own power of illusion to Whitman. However, Whitman, unaware of who the Eternals are, doesn’t believe her and references his own understanding of what these museum artifacts represented in history. As we learn later, Sprite is telling the truth.

This encounter is an interesting one as Sprite is so open about her own identity. It makes sense that Whitman would be so ignorant towards what she’s saying since he has no idea who the Eternals are, even if he is dating Sersi (Gemma Chan). Sprite even gives him some relationship advice, saying Sersi still isn’t over her ex-boyfriend, Ikaris (Richard Madden), and that they broke up “centuries ago” which is literally true.

It’s unclear why this scene was cut as it gives Sprite more personality and Whitman more screentime, but nevertheless, it did not get past the cutting room floor. Whitman should get more screentime in the future as he was confirmed to be the MCU’s Black Knight in a post-credit scene. Eternals is already more than two and a half hours and there are certainly other scenes that got chopped as well.

Eternals Is Coming to Disney+ On Jan. 12

This deleted scene comes shortly before Eternals is scheduled to be released on Disney+ on Jan. 12. Directed by Chloe Zhao, Eternals centers around a group of immortal beings created by celestials to guard Earth from dangerous creatures known as deviants. Spanning centuries of human history, the Eternals guard humanity from this threat, however, they are forbidden from interfering in human conflicts, including the Avengers fight against Thanos. The film introduces a lot of cosmic and galactic threats to the galaxy that may come back to be problems for Earth’s mightiest heroes later.

Despite a mostly positive reaction from audiences, the film received mixed reviews from critics with a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest critic score for any film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, Eternals did well at the box office, grossing over $400 million worldwide.

Additional cast members for Eternals includes Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Lauren Ridloff, and Brian Tyree Henry.
