Mark Ruffalo & Hugh Laurie Join Cast Of New Netflix WW2 Miniseries

Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie have joined the cast of Netflix’s forthcoming World War II miniseries adaptation of All The Light We Cannot See.

Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie have joined the cast of Netflix’s forthcoming World War II miniseries, All The Light We Cannot See. The series is based on American author Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, which was published in 2014. The story of the novel is set in occupied France during World War II and centers around a blind, French girl named Marie-Laure LeBlanc and a German boy named Werner Pfennig, whose paths eventually cross.

Now, it’s been confirmed (via Empire) that three-time Oscar-nominee Ruffalo and ten-time Emmy-nominee Laurie will be the latest additions to the cast of the miniseries adaptation of All The Light We Cannot See currently in the works at Netflix. They will be joining newcomer Aria Mia Loberti, a sight-impaired actor who will play the role of Marie-Laure. Free Guy director Shawn Levy will be at the helm, directing a script written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Spencer).

Ruffalo has been cast as Marie-Laure’s father, Daniel LeBlanc, the head locksmith at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. His character is said to be a smart and caring father who tries to give his daughter as much independence as he can while still protecting her – along with the secret gem they carry from the Nazi occupation. Meanwhile, Laurie will be taking on the role of Etienne LeBlanc, Marie-Laure’s great-uncle and aberrant World War I hero dealing with PTSD. While the acting pair currently have a lot of film and television projects on their slate, filming for All The Light We Cannot See is expected to begin later this year once the final cast is rounded out, though a release date is yet to be confirmed.
