Players that dwell too long in cold areas like the Dragonspine will start to take damage and perish. Here’s how to stay warm in Genshin Impact.
Since its launch, the Genshin Impact player base has explored every nook and cranny of the Teyvat region. Or, as far as the current game world expands to. Though the size of this open world is impressive for a free game, it cannot go on forever. That said, the developers plan to add more regions of the map over time and have begun by making Dragonspine mountain accessible.
Dragonspine is a massive frozen peak located in between Mondstat and Liyue and can be seen off in the distance from most overlooks in the game. Now, players can climb it for themselves, but there’s a catch: the temperature is so freezing, anyone who enters the mountain will suffer from the sheer cold status effect. If explorers can’t find a heat source, they’ll take continual damage once the sheer cold meter is filled.
The moment players set foot in the Dragonspine area, they will need to look for a heat source to avoid constant damage. Genshin Impact players can look for Campfires or use items such as a Warming Bottle or Ghoulash. Here’s how players can survive the Sheer Cold in the Dragonspine area.
Warming Up in Genshin Impact
There are several resources on Dragonspine that players can use to lower their chill meter, most of which are some form of fire. They can be found along the main paths that dot the mountain’s trails, and aren’t too hard to find. That said, the easiest way to not freeze to death is to stay on these routes as long as possible. Trying to find a shortcut up the mountain or off the beaten path is risky, as there’s no guarantee there will be a heat source nearby to quell the cold.
- One might expect that characters with Pyro abilities will be able to light fires for warmth, but unfortunately, they cannot. What they can do is light torches and bonfires scattered about the area. Fires beneath cooking pots will also work, so campsites tend to be a safe place while exploring frigid places.
- Players that have played Genshin Impact are familiar with the Seelies, blue wisp-like spirits that float about and lead adventurers to treasure chests. The ones found on Dragonspire are known as Warming Seelies and sport a colorful orange hue. Just like a flame, these entities will provide warmth to those that follow them. Once they settle down in their statue, they will permanently provide warmth in that location, so note down where they are for future reference.
- A new cooking recipe introduced in the same update that brought Dragonspine is the hearty goulash soup. Adventurers can obtain the recipe for it after completing the “Ah, Fresh Meat!” quest at the Adventurer camp set up at the base of the mountain. All it takes are two chilled meats, two carrots, and a tomato to create this cure for the cold. Ingesting it will decrease the amount of sheer cold built up over time, but not eliminate it outright. Still, it is a great recipe that will aid those that can cook it.
- The Warming Bottle can reset the Sheer Cold meter entirely, allowing players more time to survive in the cold. To craft a Warming Bottle, players must get their Frostbearing Tree to level four. Once players hit level four, they will unlock the blueprint for the Warming Bottle and can craft it using two Flaming Flower Stamen and two Starsilver pieces.
