You Don’t Need A Taco Bell Subscription, But You’ll Probably Get One Anyway

Taco Lover’s Pass will let subscribers choose from a restricted menu of items, so long as they’re okay with ingesting about 200 calories each day.

Taco Bell has launched a subscription service in its app that lets buyers enjoy a taco each day for thirty days at a flat fee of $10 per month. The subscription model is well known to the world of gaming and entertainment, but it is not alien to the food industry. Pret offers a $19.99/month subscription service that allows up to five iced or hot drinks each day.

A similar subscription service is also offered by BJ’s Brewhouse Beer Club. Likewise, Panera sells a MyPanera+ plan that promises unlimited cups of coffee and tea of any size or flavor for $8.99 each month. For comparison, the basic tier of Apple Music is priced at $9.99 per month for an individual, while the family plan goes up to $14.99 per month for a shared group of six users.

Taco Bell is now jumping on the subscription bandwagon with its own ‘Taco Lover’s Pass‘ service that’s priced at $10. The name is somewhat similar to Xbox Game Pass, and there might well be some Microsoft history behind it. Back in 2019, Taco Bell partnered with Microsoft to give away some Xbox Swag and gaming consoles. As for Taco Lover’s Pass, it will let subscribers enjoy one taco each day for a span of 30 days. “Tacos are in our DNA, and we’re thrilled to offer our most ordered menu item through the Taco Lover’s Pass,” explained Zipporah Allen, Chief Digital Officer at Taco Bell. There’s a catch, however. Hungry subscribers will have to visit a nearby Taco Bell outlet to enjoy their daily taco quota. Moreover, it is non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be combined with any other offers.

The options available to Taco Lover’s Pass subscribers are also quite slim, as they can only choose between seven items: Crunchy Taco, Crunchy Taco Supreme, Soft Taco, Soft Taco Supreme, Spicy Potato Soft Taco, Doritos Locos Tacos, and the Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme. As for the value proposition, here’s a basic rundown. A Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme costs $2.69 on a regular day. A Taco Lover’s Pass subscriber can enjoy one daily for 30 days in a row, and save $70 each month. That would also mean pumping 190 calories into the body each day, but the subscriber already knows that.

It remains to be seen whether the similarity in Game Pass name to Xbox will translate into real success for Taco Bell’s offering, but for taco lovers who don’t mind visiting a Taco Bell outlet each day, it’s a great deal. For everyone else, some budget calculations and scheduling will come in handy before purchasing a subscription through the Taco Bell mobile app.
