Loki Season 2 to Begin Filming in Summer 2022

A previous rumor regarding the second season of Loki has seemingly been confirmed, with The Disinsider claiming that filming on the Disney+ show will begin in the summer of 2022. Referencing a casting website, the latest report states that production on Loki Season 2 is expected to start in June, with filming taking place at Pinewood Studios in England.

While there are very few other details surrounding Loki’s second season, this report describes the show’s return as once again following “the mercurial villain as he continues his work as god of mischief, the action is set across the Marvel multiverse.” With filming due to begin in summer, audiences can expect to be reunited with Loki and the Time Variance Authority sometime in early 2023.

Starring Tom Hiddleston, the first season of Loki picks up with an alternate version of the fan-favorite character. Last seen stealing the Tesseract during the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, this variant version of Loki is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a “time-variant,” or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat.

The series finds Loki trapped in his own crime thriller, traveling through time and coming face-to-face with all manner of other variants of himself, most important of which is Sylvie, played by Sophia Di Martino. A female variant of Loki who is on a vendetta against the TVA, Loki and Sylvie develop a connection throughout the series, with events culminating in Sylvie unleashing the madness of the multiverse upon the MCU.

Loki Season 2 is Likely to Further Explore the Multiverse

Loki Season 2 was confirmed by Disney back in July last year courtesy of an announcement that was made mid-way through the end credits of the Season 1 finale. Showing an image of the popular anti-hero’s case file branded with a stamp saying “Loki will return in season 2,” details of what Loki’s return will involve are scarce, but will no doubt tackle the fallout of such other Marvel outings as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The second season of Loki will likely pick up right where the first season ends, with Loki dropped into an alternate reality where his newfound friends, including Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius, do not know who he is. A giant statue of the latest MCU big bad, Kang the Conqueror, who will play a significant part in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was also shown during the final moments of Loki, with Kang’s presence also likely to have an influence on season 2.

Tom Hiddleston, meanwhile, has revealed his hopes for Loki season 2, believing there is an opportunity to explore the multiverse further.

“It raises questions of, well, maybe there are other parallel or alternate universes,” the actor said. “Maybe there are other realities, and the possibilities there are endless. I feel that at the end of episode five, Loki and Sylvie are close to discovering the answers to the questions that they have of who is behind the TVA and that, somehow, this will provoke even more curiosity about…”
