Jared Leto Says He Hasn’t Looked at House of Gucci Reviews

While some reviewers had harsh words to say about Jared Leto’s House of Gucci performance, the actor said he doesn’t pay attention to them.

Jared Leto has had his fair share of big movie characters that gain a lot of internet buzz, whether it was his take on Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad, or his upcoming role as Morbius in Sony’s Marvel Universe. Another role that has gained him a lot of attention recently has been his performance as Paolo Gucci in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, a part that saw the star donning a significant amount of prosthetics and being called over the top with comparisons being made to Nintendo game character Wario. However, speaking in an interview with Screendaily, Leto revealed that he doesn’t tend to pay attention to people’s opinions.

“I can imagine [the reaction] because it’s a big swing,” Leto explained. “I don’t look at reviews, I don’t look at critics or read comments, but I tried my very best. Paolo is the best I can do. If you don’t like the work, that’s okay. I had a blast playing it, I dug in as deep as I could. It’s also that thing of if you’re not p*ssing people off then you’re doing something wrong. As an actor, if you want to put a dent in things you got to break things a bit, and not everyone’s going to understand that. So if that’s happening, then great.”

“I could relate to Paolo’s desire to be taken seriously as an artist, his desire to be heard, his desire to create something special and share it with the world,” Leto continued. “He reminded me a lot of my grandfather, who had a kind of mischievous charm to him and was gregarious and full of life and laughter. In my life I can be quite reserved and quiet unless I’m on stage [with his band 30 Seconds To Mars], so I love that Paolo was virtually singing and dancing all the time.”

Jared Leto Would Love To Play Paolo Gucci Again In A Prequel Movie

House of Gucci First Reactions Are Divided, But Praise the Power of Lady Gaga

Following the release of House of Gucci, Jared Leto discussed how much he would love to reunite with co-star Al Pacino to do a prequel to the film, and he even had an idea of a title for the project. “I’d love to do a prequel to House of Gucci. Just the Two of Us, we could call it,” Leto told SiriusXM while discussing the movie and his experience of working with fellow Oscar winner Pacino, who he also revealed hadn’t recognized him on set.

“On the first day of set, he didn’t know it was me, and I came up to him and said, you know, ‘hello.’ And he just kind of brushed me off. He thought I was just an Italian weirdo that was trying to talk to him or get his autograph or something. I come up to him two or three times and someone finally whispered, ‘That’s Paolo, that’s Jared under there.’ And he was like, ‘My son, my son,’ and he fell to the floor. He was just astounded. Having that happen with one of the world’s greatest actors was a beautiful gift and gave me the faith that if Al can believe in this guy, then we all can. It was a boost of confidence early on, and I adored working with him.”
