Midnight Mass Creator Clarifies New Netflix Horror’s Filming Schedule

Midnight Mass creator Mike Flanagan clarifies the filming schedule of his new Netflix horror series The Fall of the House of Usher.

Midnight Mass creator Mike Flanagan clarifies the filming schedule of his new Netflix horror series The Fall of the House of Usher. Development on the series was first announced in late 2021, with Flanagan planning to write the adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s short story of the same name, as well as other works by the iconic gothic horror author. The series marks the latest project to stem from Flanagan’s partnership with Netflix, which kicked off with his acclaimed adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House and was succeeded by The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass.

Flanagan has begun building a star-studded cast for The Fall of the House of Usher with multiple frequent collaborators, some of whom include Carla Gugino, Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, Zach Gilford, Rahul Kohli and Annabeth Gish. The horror series will also mark the celebrated filmmaker’s first collaborations with some high-profile performers including Oscar nominee Frank Langella, Mark Hamill and two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell. With production on his next Netflix series, The Midnight Club, having concluded in September 2021, Flanagan has his eyes set on The Fall of the House of Usher, though maybe not as fast as some were expecting.

Flanagan’s clarification of The Fall of the House of Usher‘s filming schedule comes on the heels of star Kate Siegel having taken to Twitter to share her excitement over reuniting with The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass star Rahul Kohli for the series. Many understandably took to believing this to be a confirmation that filming had begun on the series, namely as it came nearly two months after the filmmaker began announcing his cast for the show. Though his note that filming hasn’t begun on the series may come as a bit of a jolt, fans of Flanagan should be excited by his assurance that production on The Fall of the House of Usher could start next week and that he’ll offer an announcement for when it does.

Flanagan has become well-known for his quick turnaround time with his small-screen projects, having successfully filmed Midnight Mass within five months in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic without any shutdowns. With The Fall of the House of Usher expected to have just one more episode than that of his religious horror drama and adapting the works of Poe, it will be interesting to see how quickly the writer/director will be able to turn around his new series. Audiences will have to keep their eyes peeled for when Flanagan announces the start of production on the show and keep their fingers crossed for a premiere date announcement on The Midnight Club in the near future.
