Tamra Judge and Jen Shah react to former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jennie Nguyen’s excuse, calling her out for not owning her words.
Jen Shah and Tamra Judge criticized The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jennie Nguyen for her insulting excuse after posting racist messages on Facebook. Jennie first got national attention in RHOSLC season 2, which is still currently airing. She joined the show as a friend of Lisa Barlow but made a name for herself as someone who wasn’t afraid to stand up to Mary Cosby. In the first half of the season, Jennie opened up about her fertility struggles, revealing to the group she had a number of miscarriages and gave birth to a stillborn child. She was very open about how hard that is for her to cope with and how hard it is for her to try for another baby.
Recently, old racist posts from Jennie’s Facebook account, in which she criticized the Black Lives Matter movement, were unearthed. Fans and her RHOSLC co-stars instantly began speaking out against Jennie’s old posts, demanding that Bravo do something about them. Initially, her castmates were unable to speak about it in detail, but once given permission they all made it clear they do not agree with or condone anything Jennie said in those posts. Jennie apologized, claiming she felt she was speaking out against the violent rioters but that she knows better now. Fans were unhappy with her apology, and Bravo announced that she was fired from the show.
After Jennie’s attempt to explain her posts, Jen and Tamra bashed her for her inability to take accountability for her past actions. As reported by Reality Blurb, Tamra and Jen don’t think Jennie has fully taken responsibility for her posts and instead is coming up with pathetic and “insulting” excuses. Jen claimed she knows for a fact Jennie posted the racist photos herself because she told her she did. She also called Jennie bringing a Black friend of hers onto her Instagram Live was a performative move to get fans on her side rather than a genuine show of friendship. Jen ended her statement by claiming she hopes Jennie can learn from her mistakes and work towards correcting her racism and Islamophobia. Tamra, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, called Jennie’s statements complete lies and insulting. She reminded Jennie that fans of Bravo are smart and can likely see right through what Jennie is trying to sell them.
During a recent Instagram Live, Jennie acknowledged her posts were wrong and that she is taking complete accountability for what she posted. Just before claiming full accountability, however, Jennie claimed she had a team of people helping her run her social media accounts at the time. She also said it doesn’t matter who posted it, since it is on her account and represents her. Later on, though, she claimed her political opinions haven’t changed, and she is happy to know she has freedom of speech and can say whatever she wants. She then had her Black gay friend Michael speak on her behalf. He claimed to know Jennie very well and assured everyone she is not racist. He said he has taught her a lot and educated her on the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jennie is not the first Bravo celebrity to get fired over racist remarks on social media. It seems as though some of the others have quietly faded into the background, while others like Kelly Dodd have continued to speak out. It will be interesting to see if the former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star follows in Kelly’s footsteps or chooses another route.
