Sebastian Stan Has Hilarious Response To Why He Hasn’t Seen No Way Home

Sebastian Stan hasn’t seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet, but that’s not stopping him from taking a jab at fellow MCU actor Tom Holland.

Sebastian Stan hasn’t seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet, and he has a snarky reason why. The actor, who’s been playing Bucky Barnes/the Winter Soldier for over 10 years, has been taking a break from Marvel as of late to focus on other projects. His latest movie is a spy thriller, The 355, which will hit theaters Friday. And on February 2, Stan will debut as rocker Tommy Lee in the highly anticipated Hulu series, Pam & Tommy

However, Stan’s arc as Bucky Barnes isn’t over, with Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier seeing his character very much alive, gazing at Louisiana sunsets with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon (the new Captain America). Despite the show making no mention of alternate realities whatsoever, the multiverse concept appears to be the crux of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4, most recently explored in the record-breaking blockbuster, Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film’s inclusion of characters from past Spider-Man films attracted theater-goers in droves, raking in over $1 billion at the box office worldwide.

Stan doesn’t fall among those numbers, though. In an interview with Jake Hamilton of Jake’s Takes, Stan admitted he hasn’t seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet, so he’s not sure how Bucky would react to Doctor Strange and Spider-Man’s dabbling with the multiverse. The actor didn’t waste an opportunity to take a jab at his Captain America: Civil War co-star Tom Holland, however, saying:

“I haven’t seen it because I haven’t been to a theater. I haven’t managed to go to a theater yet, but I do want to see it because I love the idea that it brings back all these characters from the past and just seeing how all of them are going to interact in that one movie. But I typically don’t like to support Tom Holland, so it’s difficult. I support the films but not him so much.”

Of course, Stan isn’t being serious. Roasting Holland has been a running joke between Stan and Mackie, who’ve shared a close friendship since filming 2016’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel’s decision to pair the two during press tours consequentially resulted in a slew of hilarious moments that fans have since deemed “iconic,” affectionately referring to the duo as “Stackie” and creating YouTube compilations of their often-chaotic interview clips. The actors’ chemistry undoubtedly inspired their Disney+ show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which elevated their characters to starring roles as opposed to being sidekicks of Captain America.

It’s nice to see Stan continue the anti-Tom Holland gag, even without Mackie by his side. But Hamilton’s question for Stan remains relevant: how would Bucky Barnes react to the multiverse? The Captain America films and subsequent Disney+ series have generally remained grounded in reality, bereft of aliens, time travel or anything else of the fantastical sort. While Marvel hasn’t said much about how Sam and Bucky would fare moving forward, their characters are in for quite a surprise when the multiverse that plagued Spider-Man: No Way Home starts affecting their world.
