A biopic about the life of boxer Mary Kom, an Indian boxer who went on to win the Amateur World Championship six times. Mary Kom follows Kom’s journey from becoming an amateur boxer to her hard-earned victory at the 2008 World Boxing Championship before the athlete made it to the Olympic Stadium, with Chopra playing the lead role. Chopra underwent rigorous physical training for four months before production and studied Kom’s style of boxing to recreate Kom’s boxing to the best of her ability. While Chopra was praised for her outstanding performance, she has since admitted that the role should have gone to someone from the Northeast.
Translating to “Path of Fire,” Agneepath follows Vijay who seeks revenge when his wife and father are brutally murdered at the hands of Kaancha. Chopra plays the role of Vijay’s first love and eventual wife, who provides support for him unconditionally until her death. The film follows Vijay’s life as he grows up, establishing the strong relationships that were broken by Kaancha’s wrath. Such a lovable character who, despite being married to Bajirao and wanting his love, only wishes for the lovers’ happiness. Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards, The White Tiger follows Balram, a humble driver to a wealthy Indian family who seeks to improve his life and escape the clutches of the Indian lower class. He is referred to as a “white tiger” because of his advanced academic abilities, someone born once in a century. Chopra makes her appearance as Pinky Stork, the wife of Ashok. As the family suffers many dramas, it seems Balram has many opportunities to rise in the ranks.
Topping the list is the Hindi film Aitraaz. Priyanka Chopra’s most praised role is as Sonia, the ex-lover of Raj in Aitraaz. Raj finds himself in a jam when Sonia accuses him of sexual assault to blackmail him and destroy everything he’s built for himself.
