Hotel Transylvania 4 contains a plethora of star names for its’ voice cast, with many bearing little resemblance in real life to their monstrous character counterparts. The fourth film in its respective franchise, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, was released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in January 2022 following a series of COVID-related delays, which saw Sony Pictures cancel the film’s release plans subsequently sell the film’s distribution rights to Amazon. These delays also served as the springboard for some big voice cast changes, with several of Hotel Transylvania 4‘s main characters being recast across 2020 and 2021 while the film was still in development.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania brings the fourth franchise installment a much-needed narrative shake-up its name suggests. Hotel Transylvania 4 sees Dracula consider selling the eponymous hotel that forms the backdrop of the first three Hotel Transylvania movies before a mishap with a Monster Ray turns the vampiric patriarch and his cohort into humans. His human nephew Johnny is also turned into a giant green dragon, leading the Dracula clan on a quest to South America in an effort to revert themselves to their original forms.
The form-swapping fun does not end with Hotel Transylvania: Transformania‘s characters, with several of its core voice cast also changing hands. Heavyweight comedy duo Adam Sandler and Kevin James have relinquished their roles as Count Dracula and Frankenstein, respectively, with impressionist Brian Hull and experienced voice actor Brad Abell taking over these monstrous animated roles. Here’s the voice cast for Hotel Transylvania 4, as well as what the characters look like in real life and where you know each actor from.
Andy Samberg – Jonathan “Johnny” Loughran
Johnny is dealt something of a rough hand in the Hotel Transylvania universe as the only socially ostracized human within the Dracula family, as well as being Mavis’ husband, Dracula’s son-in-law, and Dennis’ father. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania sees Johnny break the established order, however, as he turns monstrous while his immediate family all get a taste of the decidedly human life. Johnny is voiced by SNL alum and Baking It host Andy Samberg, whose comedy film credits include Hot Rod, I Love You, Man, and the animated Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs franchise.
Selena Gomez – Mavis Dracula
Johnny’s loyal wife Mavis has, just like her husband, seen many trials and tribulations after being determined to marry a human across the Hotel Transylvania franchise. Hotel Transylvania 4 grants Mavis and Johnny a chance to bring their own vision of the hotel to life, resulting in the Monster Ray mayhem that follows after Dracula cannot let go of his beloved building. Mavis is voiced by American singer, actress, and producer Selena Gomez, whose recent film credits include Jim Jarmusch’s critically acclaimed apocalypse depiction, The Dead Don’t Die and Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day In New York.
Kathryn Hahn – Ericka Van Helsing
Dracula’s wife and the great-granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing, Ericka often acts as the voice of reason against her husband’s more petulant impulses. She is, however, unable to stop Count Dracula from breaking the Monster Ray, causing the entire Dracula clan to trek across the globe in search of a rare crystal to fix the transmogrifying machine. Ericka Van Helsing is played by comedy queen Kathryn Hahn, who was recently cast in an undisclosed role in Rian Johnson’s highly anticipated Knives Out 2.
Jim Gaffigan – Abraham Van Helsing
The legendary yet now retired monster hunter Abraham returns as the catalyst for Hotel Transylvania 4‘s zany, body-morphing antics to take place. His Monster Ray is certainly a marvel to behold, although its idiosyncratic mechanisms ensure a long and arduous journey to South America for the franchise’s protagonists. Abraham is played by stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer Jim Gaffigan, whose notable movie credits include The Love Guru and Super Troopers 2.
Steve Buscemi – Wayne
Steve Buscemi returns as the ever-popular werewolf Wayne who finds himself in a human body bereft of Lycan blood following the ray’s malfunction early in Hotel Transylvania 4. Wayne’s voice actor needs little introduction, with Buscemi boasting an impressive body of work spanning the last 40 years. Buscemi is equally prevalent in the Hollywood animation industry, with his notable voice roles including Randall in the Monsters Inc. franchise, Francis in The Boss Baby, and Templeton in Charlotte’s Web.
Molly Shannon – Wanda
Wanda is the other half of Wayne and is, predictably, a less-than ferocious werewolf across most of her appearances in the Hotel Transylvania franchise. However, unlike her husband, she is spared the ignominy of transforming into a human after refusing to drink from the ray-contaminated fountain that turns Wayne and several other monsters into ordinary people. Wanda’s voice actor Molly Shannon boasts a vast and varied film and TV career, with comedian most recently starring in HBO Max’s seminal The White Lotus.
David Spade – Griffin
David Spade first saw success as a Saturday Night Live troupe member in the 1990s before going on to co-star in the films Tommy Boy and Black Sheep with the late comedy legend Chris Farley. More recently, Spade has starred alongside long-time friend Adam Sandler in numerous Netflix productions such as The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, and The Wrong Missy, and the first three Hotel Transylvania installments. Spade plays Griffin in Hotel Transylvania 4, an invisible man humorously derived from the works of H.G. Wells’ original 1897 sci-fi novels.
Keegan-Michael Key – Murray
Like many of his monstrous cohorts, Murray the mummy is turned human in Hotel Transylvania 4‘s Monster Ray mishap. The comedic force Keegan-Michael Key voices Murray, with the former Mad Tv star also slated to voice Toad in an upcoming (and currently untitled) Super Mario movie. Key’s other relevant film credits include voice work in Toy Story 4 and The Lion King’s live-action remake, respectively.
Brian Hull – Count Dracula
YouTube personality and impressionist Brian Hull takes over from Adam Sandler in Hotel Transylvania 4 as Count Dracula, the conflicted patriarch, and perennial hotel proprietor. Hull’s ability to replicate Sandler’s voice was likely a key factor in this casting decision, with Dracula’s tone remaining remarkably consistent despite this casting change in the latest installment in the Hotel Transylvania franchise. Hull also voiced Dracula in the animated franchise spin-off Monster Pets, proving his impressionist chops and suitability for the role in early 2021.
Fran Drescher – Eunice
The phenomenal Fran Drescher returns for her third Hotel Transylvania appearance as Eunice, wife of the oft-portrayed Frankenstein. Like Wanda before her, Eunice has enough sense to stay away from the tainted hotel water supply, leading to ample “I told you so’s” for her reanimated other half. Drescher has starred in over 40 feature films to date and is currently enjoying a prominent career on Broadway, with her debut arriving in 2014’s Cinderella as stepmother Madame.
Brad Abrell – Frankenstein
Of all the monsters to be turned human, Frank by far enjoys his experience the most in Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, being free of his usually cumbersome, electrified body. Frankenstein is played by prominent voice actor Brad Abrell, whose impressive vocal credits include the Men in Black franchise universe and voicing various characters in the Final Fantasy videogame series. Abrell takes over from comedy superstar Kevin James, who, alongside Sandler, stepped away from the project in 2020.
Hotel Transylvania 4 Supporting Cast & Characters
Asher Blinkoff as Dennis: The dhampir son of Johnny and Mavis, Dennis acts as the pair’s motivation for renovating Hotel Transylvania. Dennis is voiced by Asher Blinkoff, whose work as a child voice actor includes Sing 2 and The Jungle Book alongside his recurring role in the Hotel Transylvania franchise.
Zoe Berri as Winnie: Dennis’ friend and confidante, Winnie is the daughter of the werewolf pair Wayne and Wanda. Zoe Berri’s role in Hotel Transylvania 4 is only her second accredited piece of work to date, with the young actress also playing Eliza in Live Stream.
Tyler “Ninja” Blevins as Party Monster: Better known by his online alias Ninja, Tyler Blevins is an American Twitch streamer, YouTuber, and professional gamer. 2021 marked a blistering start to Blevin’s career in film, with his voice work in Hotel Transylvania following up a cameo appearance in the summer smash hit Free Guy.
Genndy Tartakovsky as Blobby: Blobby’s transformation from a gelatinous monster into a literal restaurant-style jelly is the kind of zany humor Hotel Transylvania 4 excels at, with Blobby struggling to adjust to his new, less sentient lifestyle. Blobby is voiced by Genndy Tartakovsky in Hotel Transylvania 4, who is best known for creating various animated series on Cartoon Network, including Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Star Wars: Clone Wars.
